Join us as we celebrate the launch of Say We Won and Get Out: George D. Aiken and the Vietnam War, a new book by Stephen Terry and student research assistant Louis Augeri. Remarks by Mary Powell, CEO Green Mountain Power and Bill Falls, Dean College of Arts & Sciences, book signing, and light refreshments.
In this book, Terry, a former member of Senator George D. Aiken's staff, details Aiken’s life and rise to prominence in the U.S. Senate. Terry examines how Aiken's approach to politics stemmed from his early life as a farmer and horticulturist in Putney, Vermont. Terry draws from historical records, including the George D. Aiken Papers held by UVM's Silver Special Collections, to weave a tale that takes us through Aiken’s early life, his rapid ascendance in Vermont politics, his career as a U.S. Senator, and his evolving views of the Vietnam war
Sponsored by the Center for Research on Vermont and Silver Special Collections.
The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Special Collections at uvmsc.uvm.edu or 802-656-2138.
