Join NH teaching artist Marek Bennett for this hands-on comics creation lab, featuring source materials from the Vermont Folklife Center and UVM Special Collections or materials you bring along. We'll look at basic techniques of cartooning and comics creation, then try our hands at drawing original comics based on folktales, fairy tales, monsters, myths, and legends. Our discussions will address elements of readability, visual impact, point of view, research, and the responsibilities of the artist as an interpreter of traditional tales and cultures. Participants will each create 1+ hand-drawn pages of original comics inspired by a folktale, fairy tale, myth or legend, plus we'll all go home with the skills necessary to continue our work independently.
Register now. The workshop is free and limited to 25 participants. Registration is required. Ten slots are reserved for UVM affiliates, and a waiting list will be maintained.
No experience required – everyone can draw comics!
Presented in conjunction with the Pulp Culture Comic Arts Festival and Symposium October 26-27 at UVM
